I know where you are. Even without GPS.
During air-raid alerts, GPS in Kyiv is jammed and spoofed: a regular navigator freezes or puts you kilometres off the road. Inerka keeps guiding you — using your car’s speed, your phone’s gyroscope and the road map.
How it works
Your car and phone work out the position — no satellites needed
-
GPS lies — Inerka notices
It compares the path GPS reports with the distance the car has actually driven. If they disagree, the signal is being jammed or spoofed and can’t be trusted. Our record so far: a “teleport” to Peru.
-
The car and the phone take over
Speed comes from the car itself, through an OBD adapter in the diagnostic port. Turns are sensed by your phone’s gyroscope. And the road map keeps the position from drifting off into a field.
-
The route goes on
The arrow keeps moving; turns and arrival time stay on screen. You can see that GPS is jammed and how accurate Inerka is right now. Once the signal is honest again, it switches back.
Honest about accuracy
We’re not magicians — and we don’t pretend to be
Without GPS, the position is counted from the last reliable fix, and the error grows with every kilometre. Turns shrink it; long straights make it bigger. That’s why Inerka always shows how long it has been driving without GPS and how accurate it is.
You need an OBD adapter
Inerka reads speed from the car through a Bluetooth ELM327 adapter in the diagnostic port. Without it, it’s a regular navigator: fine while GPS works, no help once it’s jammed.
It needs a starting point
If GPS is already down when you set off, you mark on the map where the car is parked. Inerka won’t guess.
Phone in a mount
The gyroscope has to feel the car turning — not the phone sliding around on the seat.
Long straights and courtyards are the hardest
After several kilometres without a single turn the error reaches tens of metres, and courtyards or car parks may be missing from the map. Big interchanges after a highway are what we’re working on right now.
Who it’s for
For those behind the wheel while the sirens sound
-
Daily drivers
Work, school, errands — trips don’t wait for the all-clear. Your route shouldn’t vanish along with GPS.
-
Taxi & delivery
When the road is your job and the navigator puts you on the other bank of the river during an alert.
-
Crossing the river
Heading across the Dnipro? Inerka plans a route over each bridge straight away — you pick yours.
FAQ
When will the app be out?
Right now we’re testing Inerka on our own drives around Kyiv during alerts. Next comes a closed test with the first drivers, then the App Store and Google Play. We won’t name a date until we’re sure about accuracy.
What do I need for it to work?
An iPhone or Android phone, a mount for it, and a Bluetooth OBD2 (ELM327) adapter in the car’s diagnostic port. We drive with a Viecar adapter in a Volkswagen e-Golf and a Jeep Patriot; other cars and adapters are still being checked.
And without an adapter?
While GPS works — yes, as a regular navigator. Without both GPS and an adapter, Inerka won’t guide you: with no speed from the car, the position drifts away very quickly.
Do I need an internet connection?
Yes. The map, search and routes are loaded over the network — mobile internet in Kyiv usually keeps working during alerts. The position itself is computed on the phone.
What about my data?
No account, no ads. Search and routing run on our own server, not on third-party services. Trip recordings stay on your phone until you choose to send them to us — they help us tune the algorithm.
Is it only for Kyiv?
Maps and routes cover all of Ukraine. But we test and tune Inerka in Kyiv, so that’s where it will work best.
What about CarPlay and Android Auto?
CarPlay is built; it will work in cars as soon as Apple grants permission. Android Auto is planned.
Who’s behind it
Inerka is made in Kyiv. We drive through the alerts ourselves every day and watch the map “jump”.
